授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
This one-term required class allows second-year students the opportunity to take the initiative and be directly involved in their own learning, as well as the learning of their classmates, by preparing their own presentation and leading subsequent class discussion based on the chosen topic.
Overall Objectives
1. To foster student responsibility by involving students more directly in the learning process
2. To teach students how to prepare presentations
3. To give all students the opportunity to give a presentation and lead class discussion
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
We will use zoom meetings for classes and meet at the regularly scheduled class time. Materials to be used in class and zoom meetings will be posted on Porta II. Submissions of any assignments will be done via email.

/Before After Study
Before class, students are required to read all handouts and articles assigned. After class, students are required to do all homework tasks set (write introductions, do research, have group meetings, etc.)

1 Introduction / Presenting an Interview We will discuss the course outline and class policy as well as an overview of the first project. Read handouts
2 Open-ended Questions for Interviews Students will learn how to prepare for an interview using appropriate question types. Read handouts / Prepare interview questions
3 Conducting an Interview Students will conduct interviews with their partners in preparation for their presentations. Read handouts / Prepare speeches
4 Individual In-class Presentation All students will give speeches and be evaluated. Practice speeches
5 Informative Presentation / Choosing a Topic We will discuss the next project and choose a  topic for student presentations. Read handouts / choose a topic
6 Writing an Opener / Preparing a visual aid Students will learn how to prepare an opener for their speech and use visual aids. Read handouts / prepare a script
7 Presentation Skill Workshop We will discuss presentation skills and  evaluate some example presentations. Read handouts/ Finalize speech script
8 Individual In-class Presentation All students will give speeches and be evaluated. Practice speeches
9 Presenting the Pros and Cons We will discuss the requirements for the next project and start choosing a topic. Read handouts / choose a topic
10 The parts of the Presentation - Intro, body, conc. We will focus on the outline of the script  and what needs to be included. Read handouts / Prepare scripts
11 Revising the script We will work on editing our scripts to make for a better presentation. Read handouts / Revise script
12 Individual In-class Presentation Part I This presentation is longer so two days are required for all members to be able to present. Group I, practice speeches
13 Individual In-class Presentation Part II This presentation is longer so two days are required for all members to be able to present. Group 2, practice speeches
14 Review and Wrap up / Make-up Presentations Students will be given the opportunity to make-up one missed presentation. Practice any missed speeches
