授業の目的?内容 ／Course Objectives	Students will continue to develop their listening and speaking skills in this course, with the main focus of developing listening skills and strategies.  In order to accomplish this, weekly topics will be introduced so students can continue to build their vocabulary and use idiomatic phrases correctly. Listening topics will focus on various topics with an academic focus. Students will also be exposed to different speaking and listening exercises used in qualification examinations.
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	This course will be learner-centered and active in nature.  Students will spend the majority of the class time in doing pair work speaking and listening activities.  Students will be expected to give presentations on various topics throughout the term.
事前?事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Students will be expected to work on expanding their academic vocabulary based on the various themes of each unit.  On-line listening will also be assigned for each unit to supplement the classroom learning.  Education Central will also be used as supplemental material.

評価方法 ／Evaluation	Students will be assessed on weekly conversation tasks, homework, reflection sheets and vocabulary quizzes (50%), mid-term assessment (25%) and end-term assessment (25%).

1	Orientation, Course Guidelines, Summer Memories	Students will review the syllabus and talk in pairs and groups about their summer holidays.	Students will review vocabulary for Marine Science and Oceanography.
2	Unit 7: Marine Science - Oceanography	Supporting evidence and describing graphs and charts will be the focus of this class.	Students will review vocabulary for education.
3	Unit 8: Education - The Flipped Classroom	Students will work on expressing opinions.	Students will prepare presentations on their favorite subject or teacher.
4	Education	Students will talk in pairs about Japanese education and their school experiences.	Students will review vocabulary for the field of psychology.
5	Unit 9: Psychology - The Cognitive Revolution	Giving examples to support opinions will be the focus of this class.	Students will prepare presentations on personal habits to maintain a healthy body.
6	Health	Pair practice on giving advice regarding various health situations will be the focus.	Students will prepare for the mid-term assessment.
7	Mid-term assessment	Oral and written assessments will be conducted.	Review of vocabulary used in the field of Economics will be done.
8	Unit 10: Economics - Inflation	Students will work on the use of the conditional forms used in speaking.	Students will review vocabulary for various professions.
9	Professions / The World of Work	Students will have conversations about part-time jobs and future jobs.	Students will review vocabulary for engineering.
10	Unit 11: Engineering - The Challenger Disaster	Cause and effect and how to discuss them logically will be the focus of this class.	Students will review big numbers.
11	Statistics, graphs, data	Students will practice using big numbers and describing statistics, graphs and data.	Students will review vocabulary used when discussing eco-systems and the environment.
12	Unit 12: Biology - Ecosystems	Students will practice listening for bias and slanted discussions.	Students will review material covered in the course.
13	Consolidation and Listening Practice	SNS writing skills will be addressed through a listening exercise.	Students will prepare for their final assessment.
14	Consolidation and Assessment	Oral and written end-term assessments will be conducted.	Students will continue to develop the skills acquired in the course through listening activities.
