授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
Students will continue to develop their listening and speaking skills in this course, with the main focus of developing listening skills and strategies. In order to accomplish this, weekly topics will be introduced so students can continue to build their vocabulary and use idiomatic phrases correctly. Listening practices will focus on various topics with an academic focus. Students will also be exposed to different speaking and listening exercises used in qualification examinations. |

This course will be learner-centered and active in nature. Students will spend the majority of the class time in doing pair work speaking and listening activities. Students will be expected to give presentations on various topics through the term. | ||||||||||

Students will be expected to work on expanding their academic vocabulary based on the various themes of each unit. On-line listening will also be assigned for each unit to supplement the classroom learning. Education Central will also be used as supplemental material. | ||||||||||

Students will be assessed on weekly conversation tasks, homework, reflections sheets and vocabulary quizzes (50%), mid-term assessment (25%) and end-term assessment (25%). | ||||||||||

2 | Unit 7: Marine Science - Oceanograpy | Supporting evidence and describing graphs and charts will be the focus of this class. | Students will review vocabulary for education. |
3 | Unit 8: Education - The Flipped Classroom | Students will work on expressing opinions. | Students will prepare presentations on their favorite subject or teacher. |
4 | Education | Students will talk in pairs about Japanese education and their school experiences. | Students will review vocabulary for the field of psychology. |
5 | Unit 9: Psychology - The Cognitive Revolution | Giving examples to support opinions will be the focus of this class. | Students will prepare presentations on personal habits to maintain a healthy body. |
6 | Health | Pair practice on giving advice regarding various health situations will be the focus. | Students will prepare for the mid-term assessment. |
