授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
The aim is to give students a course in “film and and American culture”, as they might experience at a university in an English speaking country. The course examines American culture and society through film. Time will be spent in class watching and critically analyzing films, as a window onto American culture and society. We will cover two themes over the semester: “youth culture in American film” and “ethnicity and diversity in American film", and watch films from a variety of genres and eras in relation to these themes. Each film will be watched in its entirety over two weeks, and will be shown in class in English without Japanese subtitles. The films provided on the schedule are a tentative list and may be changed during the course. | ||||||||||

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
I have created a website through which students can easily access all films used in the course, and other course materials. Please take a look: https://sites.google.com/rku.ac.jp/keyfilms/ Students are expected to view the films, participate in online discussions, and submit reports. Students will upload short videos to the discussion via Flipgrid: https://flipgrid.com/adam4865 Zoom will be used during class hours, but is optional for students and is manly to provide Q&A with the instructor. |

Students need to spend 2 weeks on each film in the course. Students need to complete vocabulary quizzes before watching each film. After watching each film, students need to complete comprehension exercises, read an article, contribute to the online discussion forum, and submit a film review sheet. |
