ALL ABOUT ENGLISH VOCABULARY

This class is an examination of English words from the perspective of applied linguistics.

Through lectures, research, and in-class activities, we will attempt to answer a number of questions about English words including:

What is a word?
How many English words are there?
What does it mean to know a word?
How many English words do you know right now?
How many English words does a Japanese student need to know?
How is vocabulary organized in the mind?

Students should have achieved a TOEIC score of around 450 or more before enrolling in this class. Evaluation will be based on a research project, vocabulary quizzes, and a final exam.
