授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
This one-term, twice-a-week required class for first-year students develops a range of
English language skills (with an emphasis on oral communication) by applying practical
communication strategies to help build on those linguistic skills learned by students in high
school.
Overall Objectives
1. To give students maximum opportunities to communicate
2. To build student confidence in interpersonal communication
3. To begin to develop the basic study skills needed to successfully carry out their four
years of English study at this institution

This course will focus on two forms of discussion and conversation skills; academic (for the classroom and school activities that will be applicable in later courses) and casual/formal (for generalized English communication)

/Teaching method and Attention the course
This class will be conducted in English, and students are expected to speak in English with the instructor and with their classmates during the class time period.

This course will be conducted in 2 different ways (once a week - the class will be face to face in classroom environment and once a week online learning) The face to face class will be completely active and interactive and focused on discussion, roleplaying, conversation skills practice and etc.. In the online class, students will prepare materials for the face to face class, be presented with new information via reading and lecture videos, as well as listening and written activities.

Most of the activities will be conducted within the 100-minute class period. When homework is assigned, students are expected to complete it fully by the deadline.

1 Class Introduction Syllabus / Self-Introductions & Get to Know Your Classmates Profile Writing Assignment
2 Classroom English Students will create and practice a list of expressions for use in our classroom this year
3 Identity (Introduction and Reading) Reading and listening activity about identity
4 Identity (Model and Creation) A model identity map is presented, and then students make their own maps Finish identity map and presentation script
5 Identity Wrap-Up (Presentations) Students present their identity maps in a poster presentation format Writing Assignment (bio-poem)
6 Conversation Skills (Conversation Starters) Students learn and practice starting and ending everyday conversations
7 Conversation Skills (Control a Conversation) Students learn and practice expressions for controlling a conversation
8 Conversation Skills (Active Listening) Students learn and practice strategies for active listening (note-taking, pause fillers, etc.)
9 Conversation Skills Wrap-Up (Role-Play) Students work in groups to present conversation role-plays Writing Assignment (conversation analysis)
10 Discussion (Giving an Opinion & Reasons) Students learn and practice expressions to give and support their opinions
11 Discussion (Agreeing & Disagreeing) Students learn and practice expressions to agree and disagree with the opinions of others
