This one-semester course is compulsory for second-year students. Overall Objectives 1. To increase academic vocabulary and to further the development of vocabulary/vocabulary building skills in general 2. To automatize more accurate grammatical knowledge and recognize cohesive devices 3. To develop a better understanding of various styles and purposes of reading material 4. To develop effective reading skills (intensive reading, extensive reading, etc.) 5. To introduce students to authentic texts/outside readers 5. 授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
For each Reading Unit in the textbook, two classes will center on one reading per week, together with the associated comprehension and skill-building exercises. The first part of each class will be used for reading and analysis of the text material. This will be followed by reviewing and checking the homework assignments together. The third class will be given to work on the online site (MyELT) as well as any other online work assigned. As such, students taking this class will require access to the internet. Note that the teaching method, text material covered, and assessment style may change due to the demands of the ongoing health situation. Updated and more detailed information will be provided in the first class or in a message prior to the first class. | ||||||||||

Instructions and weekly assignments will be given and collected on Porta II and/or Manaba. Students will be required to complete the assigned reading and homework assignments each week before participating in class. These assignments will be due the day before class on Porta II and/or Manaba. MyELT online activities will be due within one week on MyELT. | ||||||||||
