授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This one-semester course is compulsory for second-year students. Overall Objectives 1. To increase academic vocabulary and to further the development of vocabulary/vocabulary building skills in general 2. To automatize more accurate grammatical knowledge and recognize cohesive devices 3. To develop a better understanding of various styles and purposes of reading material 4. To develop effective reading skills (intensive reading, extensive reading, etc.) 5. To introduce students to authentic texts/outside readers |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
This course will be held face to face on a bi-weekly basis (every other week) for reading discussion. On the weeks where we are not meeting face to face, class will be held online. In the online class, students will be given quizzes, reading activities, and minor writing assignments, online lecture videos, etc. The face to face classes will be devoted to reading presentations and class discussions based on the reading. |

Students will be required each week to complete the assigned reading and homework assignments in preparation for class participation. Students are expected to prepare for each class by reviewing lecture and class discussion notes. Occasionally, students will be expected to do small bouts of research and writing for reading projects and other classroom/group activities. | ||||||||||
