授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
The goal in the Writing Skills III course is to develop students’ writing and critical thinking abilities in English, progressing from production of shorter to longer academic texts, and from writing on familiar topics to writing about more complex and academic ones. Overall Objectives 1. To provide an overview of what constitutes a ‘good’ essay 2. To help students understand various patterns of essay organization 3. To help students plan essays 4. To help students revise and edit their essays 5. To help students use a variety of sources 6. To help students develop computer literacy skills 7. To introduce the basics of referencing and creating a bibliography (MLA or APA styles) |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
During this period of Covid 19, classes will be "Distance learning with on demand delivery" with classwork conducted through either PorTaII and/or Manaba. The on demand video section will provide a guided description each week about a particular aspect of writing, with weekly lessons building towards the composition of paragraphs for mid-term and final term assignments. Every video will end with exercises to be completed and submitted on a specific day of the week and will be reviewed at the beginning of the next class video. Please note that the teaching method, weekly homework and term assignments may change depending with the ongoing Covid situation. Details will be provided ahead of the first class by email and at the beginning of the first class video. | ||||||||||

Students should review all materials and exercises that are practiced during class time and try to use what they learned in their writing in future classes and assignments. Students are also encouraged to work with a writing journal to summarize and review weekly class-work and vocabulary. | ||||||||||

Mid-term essay (25%). Final term essay (25%). Active contribution to class activities and tasks related to the development of writing skills: 25%. Timely completion of homework tasks: 25%. Students should be prepared to spendat least 90 minutes preparing for/reviewing classes. | ||||||||||
