1. To help students understand the typical structure of a ‘good’ essay 2. To help students understand (genre-specific) patterns of essay organization 3. To help students plan essays 4. To help students use a variety of references and utilize Internet sources 5. To help students revise and edit their essays 6. To help students develop computer literacy skills 7. To help students become more familiar with referencing and creating a bibliography (MLA or APA styles) |

During this period of Covid 19, classes will be "Distance learning with on demand delivery." If possible, classes will be conducted real-time by Zoom but will be recorded and uploaded to manaba for the benefit of students who cannot attend the live Zoom class. Every class and video will end with exercises to be prepared for group work in the following week's Zoom class, or as a make up task for those following the recorded version. Please note that the teaching method, weekly homework and term assignments may change depending with the ongoing Covid situation. Details will be provided ahead of the first class by email and at the beginning of the first class video. Students should review all materials and exercises that are practiced during class time and try to use what they learned in their writing in future classes and assignments. Students are also encouraged to work with a writing journal to summarize and review weekly class-work and vocabulary. | ||||||||||

Mid-term essay (25%). Final term essay (25%). Active contribution to class activities and tasks related to the development of writing skills: 25%. Timely completion of homework tasks: 25%. Students should be prepared to spendat least 90 minutes preparing for/reviewing classes. | ||||||||||
