授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This course is designed and tailored for college students in Japan who wish to improve their intercultural communication as an aid to thriving in an era of international collaboration. In order to achieve this, the course introduces students to divergent cultural themes and activities with the goal of helping them understand other cultures, and at the same time, reflect on their cultural values. The course will help in the development of a) students’ cultural awareness as they reflect on their everyday lives and the lives of individuals from different cultural backgrounds; b) students' sharing their points of view, experiences through reflective writing and small-group discussions, and c) students’ confidence in expressing their opinions and experiences in English. |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
This course is primarily taught in English and encourages the development of critical thinking skills using individual, pair,and small-group work, using various materials, offline & online,as well as collaborative mobile tools (i.e. smartphones, tablet PCs, etc.). Depending on the pandemic situation, our classes may be online or f2f mode, kindly make sure you have Internet access at least during our class. It would also help if you have Zoom/Google/Slack accounts. Ideally, one topic from the chapter will be studied each week. The first part of each class will be used for reading, lecture, and analysis of the text material. This will be followed by discussion&presentation in class. For the remainder of the class, students will be given a quiz and an in-class activity. Note that the teaching method, text material covered, and assessment style may change due to the demands of the ongoing health situation. Updated and more detailed information will be provided in the first class. |

All students are expected to: - Read assigned texts (whether given online or offline) before lesson. - Review and prepare for class activities. - Provide feedback through the comment sheets. - Adhere by the due dates of the requirements. - Prepare notes before class in order to actively participate in small group discussions, whether asynchronous (discussion forums) or synchronous (class).
