授業の目的?内容 ／Course Objectives |
This one-term, twice-a-week required class helps first-year students learn how to improve their English language communication skills by introducing the organizational skills necessary to become a more competent speaker and writer. Overall Objectives 1. To help students to develop a basic knowledge of the skills required for organizing a speech and developing speech writing skills 2. To give students maximum opportunities to develop their speech delivery and speech writing skills 3. To build student confidence in speech communication in small and larger group contexts This course focuses on improving students’ "listening" and "speaking" skills and their "competence to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese," as DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "oral receptive skills and productive skills," stated in the CP. |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course |
Students will learn to give presentations on a wide variety of topics. With support and practice, they will improve their presentation skills and acquire the key skills and techniques every good presenter uses. Students will also focus on writing good scripts for speech writing and presentations. A lot of time will be spent building students' confidence communicating in small and larger group situations. This course will take place face to face. |

事前?事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study |
As a practical and hands-on skill, the majority of students’ learning and practice will take place in the classroom. Students will give many presentations during the semester. Students will complete weekly reflections on their development. This is a face to face course. Classes will take place on campus. You have to attend the first class on campus. We may use Zoom during the semester if necessary, depending on the situation. |

Students will be assessed on their weekly presentations and participation in class (20%), reflective worksheets (20%), and their main assessed presentations (60%). | ||||||||||
