授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
The goal in the Writing Skills III course is to develop students’ writing and critical thinking abilities in English, progressing from production of shorter to longer academic texts, and from writing on familiar topics to writing about more complex and academic ones. Overall Objectives 1. To provide an overview of what constitutes a ‘good’ essay with 'good' paragraphs 2. To help students understand various patterns of paragraphs and essays 3. To help students plan essays 4. To help students revise and edit their essays 5. To help students use a variety of sources 6. To help students develop computer literacy skills 7. To introduce the basics of referencing and creating a bibliography (MLA or APA styles) |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
This class will be conducted face to face but I will post a make up assignment on Manabu for those who are absent for a valid reason. We will first review paragraph writing before covering the first three chapters of the textbook in the first semester. Each class will begin with a review of the previous week before moving on to the lesson. There will be a mixture of individual, pair work and group work activities in class and I will supplement with Power Point lectures. Students will submit first drafts for feedback of all paragraph and essay assignments and are expected to revise them and submit as a final portfolio at the end of the course. The last class will be an in class assignment based on what we have covered during the semester. |

Spend one hour reviewing the class and doing the tasks assigned by the teacher, Complete the first drafts of the paragraph and essay assignments, revise according to feedback and submit as a portfolio of final drafts at the end of the semester. |

In class tasks, textbook assignment and in in class activities 50%;Paragraph and essay assignments 50% (First drafts 15%; Final drafts 35%) I will explain on the first day of class. |
