/Course Objectives
This course is intended as a broad-based introduction to various forms of creative writing, such as short fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Students are also given an opportunity to write in these genres and explore their creative strengths. The class is usually comprised of technique and style discussions, reading assignments and writing exercises.
[This course focuses on improving students’ "writing" skills, as stated in DP 2. It helps students obtain "comprehensive English proficiency" and to acquire "the ability to express various ideas and issues in correct English written form," as stated in the CP.]
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
Every three week cycle, one concept from creative writing will be focused on (creativity, fiction, nonfiction, poetry). The first week we will read and analyze assigned example texts of the genre. The second week, we will learn and consider how to create and write in the genre. The third week, we will create our own writings. Assignment feedback will be provided in class on an ongoing basis. Note that this class is planned to be taught "face-to-face" (in-class) with exemptions on a case-to-case basis. Also note that the teaching method, text material covered, and assessment style may change due to the demands of the ongoing health situation. Updated information concerning the class will be sent out to students on Manaba prior to the beginning of the semester.
