授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
a) To give students the opportunity to discuss & analyze issues related to growing up & education in a different culture/period b) To expose students to everyday spoken English through the films’ dialogue & weekly pair work practice The Fall Term is based on 2 recent films that explore the subject of changing types of family in present day society. 'Mrs Doubtfire' looks at how one man seeks to overcome the separation from his children after he & his wife divorce, and the influence of the legal system on his dilemma. The second film, 'About A Boy' is based on the semi-autobiographical novel by the renowned English writer Nick Hornby, and deals with a single man who is forced to confront his own isolation & unhappiness when a divorced woman & her child come into his life. |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
Students will prepare relevant vocabulary each week and preview themes that are raised in the film. After viewing two 10+ minute segments of the film, students will complete comprehension questions with a partner and analyze a piece of dialogue. Intensive dialogue comprehension will be concluded with a review of material covered. | ||||||||||

Students will be studying a variety of contemporary English idioms as homework as well as completing a review of what has been seen & discussed in the previous lesson. In addition, each week a reading assignment with both vocabulary & comprehension exercises will be set, based on thematic issues in the film. | ||||||||||
