授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
Students in this course will develop critical thinking skills as well as continue to expand their listening and speaking abilities. The course will be learner-centered in nature, and activities will be centered on the topics presented in the textbook. Discussion techniques, presentation skills, speech skills and conversation techniques will all be covered in this course. Students will be expected to speak on a given topic for 10 minutes. We will incorporate Active Learning Principles in class. This course will be in English and “Learner-centered” in nature. Students will be expected to work in pairs and groups to complete tasks, and active participation in discussions will be essential. Students should come to class willing to participate and work with others to make this class a success. The course focuses on improving students' "speaking" and “listening" skills and their "competence to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese," to obtain comprehensive English proficiency and to engage in logical discussions using English. |

This course will be thematic in nature. Every chapter in the text presents a new theme mainly based on cultural, environmental, social, and personal development topics. For each chapter we will view the TED Talk, discuss the language of the talk, and engage in language practice, and finally discuss the topics presented. This course will focus on Active Learning principles which include discussions, presentations & debates. This course WILL USE the Manaba Learning Managing System (LMS) to support class activities. Students are required to view Manaba on a regular basis. Students will find important course information on Manaba. READING MATERIAL WILL BE PROVIDED. Please Note Carefully: There is a chance this course will be online in part or in full. We will use ZOOM if it has an online component. | ||||||||||

事前:Students will preview, read, and synthesize the reading material; students will look up vocabulary items and will try to have a solid understanding before class time. 事後:Students will review the reading material for sentence level understanding and for the understanding of the central themes presented both in the material and the lecture. |
