授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This course focuses on improving students’ "listening" and "speaking" skills and their "competence to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese," as DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "oral receptive skills and productive skills," stated in the CP. This one-term, twice-a-week required course helps first-year students learn how to improve their English language communication skills by introducing the organizational skills necessary to become a more competent speaker and writer. Overall Objectives 1. To help students to develop a basic knowledge of the skills required for organizing a speech and developing speech writing skills 2. To give students maximum opportunities to develop their speech delivery and speech writing skills 3. To build student confidence in speech communication in small and larger group contexts |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
Course lectures and materials will all be conducted in English. It is expected that student participation and assignments will also be conducted in English. This is a project-based class; therefore, the majority of the students' grades will come from their performance on the projects assigned. Most of the information will be given during the class period. It is important for the student to examine the information for every class. Classes are planned to be face to face from the first session, so please attend class on the first day in the classroom. |

The projects assigned will involve outside preparation. The student will be required to do reading, writing, and information gathering, including research, outside of the class (mostly in development of the main presentation project).There will also be weekly discussion essays. |

(40%) weekly essays, students must submit 5 essays out of 10 possible topics (30%) final speech presentation, (20%) participation (includes submission of speech preparation assignments: topics, title, research, final outline), (10%) outline test |
