授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
Just like Reading Strategies III in the spring semester, the purpose of this course is to improve students’ reading comprehension. Specifically, students are expected to understand English passages accurately and deeply as well as think about the points more critically through intensive reading. Furthermore, they will develop their overall reading ability, build vocabulary, and savor a book through extensive reading. This course helps students achieve the high level of English proficiency stated in the department’s DP (Diploma Policy). | ||||||||||

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
?Lessons are held face-to-face in the classroom; however, classes might be switched to online distance learning (e.g. Zoom) due to changes in the COVID-19 situation. ?This course focuses on speed reading & intensive reading. ?Lessons are basically conducted in English, but Japanese might be used when necessary. Students are expected to use English as much as they can in class. ?It is important to read the pages of the course book “The Culture Map” that will be covered in each lesson, in advance. ?It is also crucial to make a report for the pages you are assigned and prepare to answer any questions you might receive from your classmates. Everyone will be required to make a report for the assigned pages of Chapters 5 or 6 and 7 or 8 during the course; thus, you need to submit a report 2 times in total. In the first lesson (orientation), you will find out your assigned pages. In addition, you are required to submit a book report 2 times. |

事前?事後学修の内容 /Before After Study |
Preparation (2 hours): You’re required to make a report for the assigned pages in each chapter (Chapters 5, 6, 7, 8). This assignment will become 30% of the grade. Review (2 hours):You are expected to use "Quizlet" to work on vocabulary in the textbook. A vocabulary test will be administered a several times during the course. Details about testing style and what chapters are covered in each test will be given in class. Also, you are required to work on e-learning (LINGUAPORTA). |
