授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
This course is an advanced level subject of "Microeconomics" and "Macroeconomics" in order to acquire "expertise in economics" indicated by DP and CP of the Faculty of Economics. The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop their skills for considering various economic policies to economic issues by applying basic concepts and analytical methods of microeconomics. Lectures will be provided in English, but questions asked in Japanese will be replied in Japanese.

この講義は経済学部のDPとCPによって示される「経済学の専門知識」を習得するための「ミクロ経済学」と「マクロ経済学」の上級レベルの科目です。この講義の目標は、ミクロ経済学の基本的な概念や考え方、分析手法を応用し、種々の問題に対応する経済政策を考えられるようになることです。講義は英語で行われますが、日本語でなされた質問には日本語で回答するようにします。
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
This course will be conducted in-person, and the recorded materials will be available online. First, the concept of the topic will be explained, and then the topic will be explained using an example. After that, exercises will be given, and each student will be asked to solve them, and the explanations will be given to deepen their understanding. Each topic is based on the previous one, and students are required to review the topics learned once. Questions can be asked at any time by chat or e-mail so that the students can understand better the content of the lecture. In addition, after submitting the assignments given during the lecture, and after the submission deadline for the mid-term and final assignments, suggested answers to the assignments will be shown so that each student can review and understand the wrong part.

この講義は対面形式で行い、録画もオンライン公開します。最初にトピックの概念を説明し例でトピックを説明します。 その後、演習を行い、理解を深めるための説明を行います。 各トピックは前のトピックに基づいており、すでに学んだトピックを理解する必要があります。講義を理解できるようにいつでも質問を受け付けます。
事前?事後学修の内容
/Before After Study
Students are recommended to have knowledge of introductory level of microeconomics for understanding this course. It is expected that the lecture materials posted on the website will be studied before the lecture (about 2 hrs). It is desirable to work on the exercises during the lecture again after the lecture to deepen the understanding of the contents(about 2hrs).

講義開始までに経済学(???)の内容を学習しておくことが望ましい。また事前にホームページに掲載しておく講義資料を、講義に備えて予習することが期待される(2時間程度)。講義中の演習問題は講義終了後にも再度取り組んで、内容の理解を深めることが望ましい(2時間程度)

Midterm and final assignments, and homeworks are evaluated with weights of 60% and 40%, respectively.

中間期末課題(60%)、講義期間中の課題(40%)
講義中の課題(40%)、中間?期末課題(60%)とし、AA,A,B,C,F の 5段階で評価します。評価の目安は以下のとおりです;
AA: 担当教員が課す標準的課題(計算問題?記述問題など)を完全にこなし、その上、発展的課題にも十分に対応した
A: 担当教員が課す標準的課題(計算問題?記述問題など)を完全にこなし、その上、発展的課題にも対応した
B: 担当教員が課す標準的課題(計算問題?記述問題など)を完全にこなした
C: 担当教員が課す標準的課題(計算問題?記述問題など)をある程度こなした

1 Introduction Various fundamental concepts in economics are introduced. Important concepts studied are necessary to understand more advanced topics in this course.
2 Comparative Advantage Students should be able to understand the idea of comparative advantage. Understanding comparative advantage is helpful to study international economics.
3 Households and Utility Maximization Students should be able to understand consumer behavior. Utility maximization is a basic tool for understanding microeconomics.
4 Firms and Profit Maximization Students should be able to understand producer behavior. Profit maximization is a basic tool for understanding microeconomics.
5 Welfare Analysis and Pricing Policies Students should be able to understand the effects of price regulations on welfare. Pricing policies are involved with tax policies learned in the following class.
6 Welfare Analysis and Tax Policies Students should be able to understand the effects of tax policies on welfare. Implementing appropriate tax policies will improve economic welfare.
7 General Equilibrium and Welfare Economics Students should be able to understand general equilibrium. Fundamental theorem of welfare economics is involved with market failure.
8 Market Failure Students should be able to understand the cases when equilibrium allocations are inefficient. Under market failure, various public policies are required to improve resource allocation.
9 Non-competitive Markets and Policies Students should be able to understand different types of market structures. Profit maximization is used in this class to understand monopoly firm's behavior.
10 Game Theory Students should be able to apply basic game theory to oligopoly. Duopoly is studied to be compared with competitive firms and monopoly firm.
11 Public Goods and Policies Students should be able to understand government policies when public goods exist. Market provision of public goods is studied in the framework of game theory.
12 Externalities and Policies Students should be able to understand government policies to externalities. Externalities is a type of market failure which is required to be fixed by public policies.
13 Desirable Tax System Students should be able to understand desirable tax system. Raising some tax revenue is necessary for implementing public policies efficiently.
14 Ricardian Equivalence Theorem Students should be able to understand neutrality with bond issuance. When raising tax revenue is not enough, issuing bond is a choice to finance government spending.
