授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This course will examine various comparison theories and methods of comparison when studying societies and cultures. So-called "Pillars of Society" will be discussed and topics and themes found within these pillars will be introduced. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of comparative studies and how they can be utilized in their future studies. | ||||||||||

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
This course will be lecture-based. Students will be asked to actively participate in small group discussions within the classroom and share and exchange ideas with each other. Interactive media as well as various types of visual materials will be included to help engage students in the classroom. This course will be conducted in English and in general in the classroom only. ZOOM will be used ONLY if requested by the university to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Otherwise, students will be expected to be in the classroom each week. *In consideration of the health and well-being of the instructor and students, discussions may be limited in nature. **EDMODO.COM will be used for quizzes and some assignments. Instruction for the use of the application will be given in the first lecture. |

Students will be given supplemental readings for the main themes introduced in the class. Vocabulary worksheets as well as review sheets to be completed during the lecture will be given to students prior to the lectures, and reflection sheets will be collected after each lecture. Students will be required to do on-line work outside of the classroom. | ||||||||||

4 | "Pillars of Society" | An introduction to the so-called "Pillars of Society" will be introduced in this lecture. | Students will summarize the "Pillars of Society" and review words for family relationships. |
5 | Family - 1 | The definition of family will be discussed. | Students will read an article from the suggested reading list. (90 minutes) |
