授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
The course aims to advance students' knowledge of German-speaking countries while developing their general academic English skills. It is a content-based course that will integrate all four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
Students will explore various aspects (geography, culture, and social issues) of German-speaking countries by participating in class activities such as reading articles, watching news stories, listening to lectures and interviews, writing short reports (summary / response), and giving presentations. Feedback will be provided to students either in class or online via MyDOC.

All class activities will be conducted in English: (Minimum TOEIC score required = 450)

/Before After Study
Students will be responsible for completing assignments related to the course content. Generally, students can expect to spend approximately 1 hour per week on these assignments. In the middle and at the end of the semester students will prepare presentations. This will likely involve several hours of study time spread out over 2 or 3 weeks.

1 Introduction to the course The instructor will go over the syllabus and explain the guidelines for the course / presentations. Students will study for a quiz about German geography.
2 Geography / sightseeing in Germany Cities / regions in Germany
Quiz on German geography
Students will watch an online video.
3 Geography / sightseeing in Austria Cities / regions in Austria Students will complete a reading assignment.
4 Geography / sightseeing in Switzerland Cities / regions in Switzerland Students will complete a reading and writing assignment.
5 Culture in Germany German music / film Students will watch an online video.
6 Group presentations: Day 1 Students will give presentations to the class in groups (Day 1). Students will prepare for their presentations.
7 Group presentations: Day 2 Students will give presentations to the class in groups (Day 2).
Summary writing instructions.
Students will prepare for their presentations.
Students will write a summary.
8 Culture in Austria Austrian music / film Students will read an article.
9 Culture in Switzerland Swiss music / film Students will watch an online video.
