授業の目的?内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-term, twice-a-week required class for first-year students develops a range of English language skills (with an emphasis on oral communication) by applying practical communication strategies to help build on those linguistic skills learned by students in high school. Overall Objectives 1. To give students maximum opportunities to communicate 2. To build student confidence in interpersonal communication 3. To begin to develop the basic study skills needed to successfully carry out their four years of English study at this institution
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Students will be expected to develop speaking and presentation skills and interact with other students on a regular basis. Speeches will include presenting to small groups as well as the whole class and using appropriate media in the presentations. Significant time will also be devoted to learning and discussing academic topics with partners and small groups.
事前?事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Chapter readings, speech preparation, review for tests. Perhaps 60-90  minutes/week.
