授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This one-term, twice-a-week required class for first-year students develops a range of English language skills (with an emphasis on oral communication) by applying practical communication strategies to help build on those linguistic skills learned by students in high school. Overall Objectives 1. To give students maximum opportunities to communicate 2. To build student confidence in interpersonal communication 3. To begin to develop the basic study skills needed to successfully carry out their four years of English study at this institution |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
This course will be taught in a mixture of lecture and seminar styles. There is no set textbook for this class. The instructor will bring in articles and other real-world readings for discussion. The first part of each class will be dedicated to communicative activities. We will be reading a longer work of fiction (The Illiad) throughout the course. There will be weekly discussions of the story culminating in a final group presentation. More information will be given on the first day of class. |

Carefully read the indicated sections of the story, take note of the characters and the events in the story. Be prepared to discuss the events in class. (2 hours) Read and be familiar with handouts or articles distributed in class. Participate in the discussion forum on Manaba each week. (2 hours) |
