授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
This one-semester course is compulsory for second-year students.
Overall Objectives
1. To increase academic vocabulary and to further the development of vocabulary/vocabulary building skills in general
2. To automatize more accurate grammatical knowledge and recognize cohesive devices
3. To develop a better understanding of various styles and purposes of reading material
4. To develop effective reading skills (intensive reading, extensive reading, etc.)
5. To introduce students to authentic texts/outside readers

This course focuses on improving students’ "vocabulary," "grammar," "reading" skills and their "competence
to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese" as stated in DP 2.
Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "written receptive skills" stated in the CP.
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
One of the best ways to improve your reading skills is to read a lot so students will be provided with many opportunities to improve their reading abilities in class. In addition, students will be able to read about and research several mini-projects during the semester. Students will also be provided with short readings or videos to complete at home, which will teach them more about readings strategies, deepen their knowledge of the topic, or provide more chances to practice their reading skills.

This is a face to face course. Classes will take place on campus. You have to attend the first class on campus. We may use Zoom during the semester if necessary, depending on the situation.

/Before After Study
Homework will be assigned every week. Students will have do extra readings, watch a video, or study vocabulary online. Students will spend about an hour doing their homework.
