授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This course will be conducted IN PERSON. Being in class will make the learning much more successful and enjoyable. Please use Manaba "Course News" (under "Courses") to get updated description. This one-term required class teaches second-year students how to read more effectively and then presents them with the opportunity to share their ideas and opinions successfully in group and class discussions while working with topical subjects. Overall Objectives 1. To teach students the skills involved in effective group discussion 2. To improve reading comprehension skills using topical reading material 3. To develop verbal reasoning skills together with the ability and opportunity to communicate their thoughts related to the topics and readings provided |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
Use of handouts, textbook and short lectures, including student activities. Students will read and report on two Graded Readers that can be obtained from the university library. it is encouraged that students bring their laptop computers to class as some homework assignments and email from teacher can be used online. When students are given various types of assignments during the course, feedback or criticism will be provided by offering general comments to the entire class when positive or negative patterns among students can be detected; consultations with individual students after important assignments for brief critique; written comments from the teacher on the paper either by email or on hard copy written by hand. If students have questions about their grade they are always free to enquire with the teacher. No textbook. |

Please apportion your weekly homework tasks according to a 90 minute timetable. Carefully read the instructed portion of handouts beforehand and make a note of important details. Read the specified portion of the assignment as preparation for each class, and be aware of the meaning of any specialized terminology. As review for each class, reread any parts of the assignment that you had difficulty with and ask your peers or the teacher for help when needed without hesitation. |
