授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
This course is designed to help students interested in language and language learning to better understand the English language. In this semester we will trace English's journey across the globe in the wake of British imperialism, following it to India, Australia, and elsewhere. By reading and discussing the text material, including pre-reading and post-reading activities to enhance the reader’s comprehension, it is hoped that students will come away from this course with a better understanding of the English language today.

One chapter from the text will be covered per week. [Please be aware that both semesters of this class will be held in the first semester. Students wishing to take this class are advised to take both classes.] The first part of this class will be used in a review of the assigned text material. This will be followed by working with a complementary video and associated skill-based strategy exercises. Any remaining class time will be used for introducing the next text chapter. Assignment feedback will be provided in class on an ongoing basis. Note that this class is planned to be taught "face-to-face" (in-class). Also note that the teaching method, amount of text material covered, and assessment style may change due to the demands of the ongoing health situation. Updated information concerning the class will be provided to students in the first class or sent out to students on Manaba prior to the beginning of the semester.
