As in the spring term the course will continue to examine the relationships between education and society by looking at how educational institutions foster and maintain social inequalities in society. In the fall term the focus looks more specifically at race, ethnicity and the affect of these two important aspects of one’s social positioning, especially as relates to school and academic achievement. The main topics of study include social mobility and educational stratification; social & cultural reproduction as these relate to differences across different racial/ethnic group standings within society and economic class. |
