This one-term required class allows second-year students the opportunity to take the initiative and be directly involved in their own learning, as well as the learning of their classmates, by preparing their own presentation and leading subsequent class discussion based on the chosen topic. Overall Objectives: 1. To foster student responsibility by involving students more directly in the learning process; 2. To teach students how to prepare presentations; 3. To give all students the opportunity to give a presentation and lead class discussion. |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
Students will be asked to participate 100% in University-Level SOCRATIC LEARNING. In other words, students will be asked to GUESS, if they don't know the answer to a question. The teacher will randomly ask students to 'model' conversations; and they will be required make long, explanatory ENGLISH answers (hopefully with a good sense of humor; eye contact; and emotion). In lieu of exams/tests: the teacher will grade every response that a student makes, in every class. |

事前?事後学修の内容 /Before After Study |
Please do homework assignments as soon as possible (the same day; or the next day). Waiting until the last minute to do assignments/homework (‘ichiyazuke’) is NOT a good way to prepare for classes. Please spend an average of one hour before each class, to prepare. Please spend an average of one hour after every class, to do homework. * NOTE: IF the VIRUS situation gets BAD again, Online classes MIGHT be needed. (IF that happens: please e-mail me at tonydur2020@gmail.com) |

評価方法 /Evaluation |
The instructor will use the ongoing assessment technique. You will be assessed often, on: how well you participate in class; how well you speak and elaborate (explain) in English, the ways in which you reason (think); how well you use the information taught to you; how well you work together with other class members; and so on. Your grade will be tentatively determined by: ongoing class assessments (approximately 35%); class participation (20%); and homework/test(s)/presentations (45%). |
