授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
This one-semester course is compulsory for second-year students.
Overall Objectives
1. To increase academic vocabulary and to further the development of vocabulary/vocabulary building skills in general
2. To automatize more accurate grammatical knowledge and recognize cohesive devices
3. To develop a better understanding of various styles and purposes of reading material
4. To develop effective reading skills (intensive reading, extensive reading, etc.)
5. To introduce students to authentic texts/outside readers

This course focuses on improving students’ "vocabulary," "grammar," "reading" skills and their "competence to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese" as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "written receptive skills" stated in the CP.

/Teaching method and Attention the course
This course will use English as our main language. Students are expected not only to attend but also to contribute to the classroom through exercises, activities, and discussions.

Students will acquire skills to comprehend reading various texts and topics and expand their vocabulary and understanding of the context. Students will also practice their writing skills. Students will receive feedback for their writing assignments from their peers and the instructor.

Each student is responsible for purchasing the textbook assigned in class.

As a ground rule, students are allowed up to three excused absences. Those who miss four or more classes will likely fail the course.
