授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
The ability to write clear English and to support your ideas with information from different sources is an important skill in the workplace as well as at university. During this course we will cover a number of topics that are important now and in the future, and students are encouraged to discuss these topics and come up with their own ideas. This writing course will build on the writing skills studied in Writing Skills I and II to: 1. Understand what a 'good' essay is and to be able to use different patterns of essay organization. 2. Plan, revise and edit their essays, and develop computer literacy skills. 3. Use a variety of sources and understand how to cite and reference them (APA style). |

This class is student-centered and students will work in pairs and and groups in class to complete the tasks in the textbook, answer questions and solve problems.. Students are encouraged to come up with their own ideas about the topics introduced in the textbook and discuss them with their classmates. We will first review paragraph writing before covering the first three chapters of the textbook in the first semester. Each class will begin with a review of the previous week before moving on to the lesson. Students will write first drafts of short paragraphs and two 400-word essays, revise and edit them before submitting at a portfolio of completed work at the end of the semester. Writing essays is challenging and each student has different problems. I encourage you to discuss any problems you may have at the end of class or by email. |
