1. To help students understand the typical structure of a ‘good’ essay 2. To help students understand (genre-specific) patterns of essay organization 3. To help students plan essays 4. To help students use a variety of references and utilize Internet sources 5. To help students revise and edit their essays 6. To help students develop computer literacy skills 7. To help students become more familiar with referencing and creating a bibliography (MLA or APA styles) |

This class will be online via Zoom for the first part of the semester. This is a dynamic interactive English writing class. There is no textbook for this class because there will be specially made teacher handouts for you to use.You should download and print out a copy of the handouts to bring to the lessons. There are many opportunities in this class for discussion and speaking practice with pair and group work. In this class you need to bring a laptop computer or tablet computer to each lesson. In addition, be sure to have earphones or headphones handy, too. Be sure all devices are fully charged when the lesson starts. BE SURE TO ATTEND ALL THE LESSONS. If you miss a lesson, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and catch up with any notes from the lessons and any homework set or other things you need to do. | ||||||||||

Students need to prepare for lessons, do homework and review lessons. Carefully go over the points covered in the handout paying particular regard to any new vocabulary (15-minutes). Go over and organise your notes on the lesson and review and prepare for any assignment mentioned in the class (45-minutes). Depending on your pace, you may take more time to complete your studies each week. ABSENCE IS NO EXCUSE FOR MISSING ANY OF YOUR STUDY. |

Teacher Points (Based on effort and participation) = 100 x 10% = 10 Class Handouts, vocabulary tests and other quizzes = 100 x 30% = 30 Weekly Creative Journal Writing = 100 x 20% = 20 A Descriptive Essay = 100 x 20% = 20 End of term oral exam = 100 x 20% = 20 Full details on the breakdown of the evaluation of your course of studies will be given in the lessons. In essence, if you come to all the lessons on time and do your best, you will be fine. |
