授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
The purpose of this course is to help first-year Department of English students acquire the basic study skills—and independent learning mindset—necessary to achieve academic success at the university. Lessons are designed not only to improve critical thinking, written and oral expression skills, but also to enable students to effectively utilize a variety of technologies and media in their studies. In the spring semester, students will learn how to properly proofread and format their papers; to annotate, paraphrase, and summarize readings; to determine whether an argument is based on belief, opinion, or fact; to utilize AI in language learning, translation, and research; to write a thesis statement for an expository and argumentative essay. Furthermore, students will develop executive functioning skills, including time management, planning and organization. 本科目の履修を通じて、学生は英語学科の学位授与方針(DP)と教育課程の編成?実施方法(CP)を理解し、卒業までの学修計画を明確化することが期待される。 |

Methodologies will include lectures, readings, group and class discussions, and applied practice assignments and papers. Full participation in group-based activities and discussions will be of particular importance. All assignments will be reviewed and assessed in class, first by students—going over and making corrections to their responses with classmates, and finally by the instructor—eliciting responses from students and providing feedback. Classes will be held face-to-face on the Dokkyo University campus. |
