授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
As an academic foundation course, the aim is to provide students with practice in all 4 skills (reading, writing, listening & speaking) with a broad range of activities, including academic readings, watching lecture videos and taking notes, participating in discussions or debates, presentations, and writing short reports. Another aim is to develop critical thinking and reasoning skills. The book Justice, by Michael J. Sandel will be read as a platform to learn about ethics and moral philosophy. Students will face tough questions of right and wrong as they consider and discuss a variety of moral dilemmas. This course focuses on improving students’ "listening", "reading", "speaking" and "writing" skills and their "competence to think critically in English," as stated in DP, 2. Overall objectives are "to obtain a comprehensive English proficiency," as stated in the CP. |

事前?事後学修の内容 /Before After Study |
As there is limited time in class for the material, students will be expected to spend time completing the reading of each chapter before / after class. They will also need to complete a short quiz on each chapter they complete. And write a self-reflection report. The final few weeks of the course are a "critical thinking case study". Students will work in groups to prepare a presentation for the final class. Students can expect to spend 1 -2 hours a week studying outside of the class. |
