授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This one-semester course for first year students will develop reading comprehension skills as well as guide students to produce well-structred argumentative essays on the topics they have explored in readings. The aim is to develop active reading skillsthrough exploration of a text and discussions related to it. With writing, the aim is for students to learn the fundamentals of English essay writing by practicing argumentative essays. Overall Objectives - Reading 1, To understand how argumentative, or persuasive, texts are structured. 2. To make connections between the text to self, text to text, and text to the world. 3. To provide opportunities for discussion and critical reflection on readings to better organzie one`s thinking and ideas. Overall Objectives - Writing 1. To understand and practice structuring an argumentative essay in English with an introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and learn essential essay components such as a hook sentence, thesis statement, and topic sentences. 2. To learn to structure arguments and develop ideas logically and effectively in paragraphs. 3. To integrate information from readings into essays, and support arguments with relevant evidence. |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
The course will last for 14 weeks with 2 classes each week. One day will be used for mainly reading activities and the other day will be used for mainly writing activities. There will be two essays required during the term. The first draft will be written by hand as a timed essay during class. The Instructor will provide feedback and the students will revise their essays prepare their final draft which is to be typed. The length of the essay will be four/five paragraphs and have a word count of 500-600 words. There may be reading assignments assigned. | ||||||||||
