授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
Overall Objectives- Reading 1. To understand how argumentative, or persuasive, texts are structured. 2. To make connections between the text to self, text to text, and text to world. 3. To provide opportunities for discussion and critical reflection on readings to better organize one’s thinking and ideas. 4. To develop vocabulary strategies and increase students’ vocabulary repertoire. 5. To develop active reading strategies to allow students to engage with the text. Overall Objectives - Writing 1. To understand and practice structuring an argumentative essay in English with an introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and learn essential essay components such as a hook sentence, thesis statement, and topic sentences. 2. To learn to structure arguments and develop ideas logically and effectively in paragraphs. 3. To integrate information from readings into essays, and support arguments with relevant evidence. 4. To be familiar with the stylistic and genre features of English academic writing. 5. To provide guidance on the essay writing process, from planning, through to drafting and revising, with opportunities to give and receive feedback. 6. To provide opportunities to practice timed-essay writing that as practice for tests such as TOEFL or IELTS. |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
Students will learn to write essays in the formal APA style as well as learn and practice reading different kinds of texts. Students will practice applying that textual information to class discussions, critical thinking activities, as well as for their own ideas, writing, and reflecting. Students will get ample practice writing essays and reading texts throughout this course, as well as actively participating in class discussions on this material in English. | ||||||||||

Students will be expected to read, take notes and develop ideas and opinions concerning the written work and its context both inside and outside of classroom time. Students will also be expected to do some of their writing preparation, research, and other aspects of the writing process both inside and outside of the classroom. | ||||||||||
