授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This course will focus on continuing to develop the writing skills studied in the spring semester by examining various purposes of writing. Students will write simple paragraphs and develop their writing in to short essays during the course. Students will also learn how to write a short research paper, complete with documentation and reference lists. Common mistakes and how to avoid them will be also introduced to the students. Self-help techniques as well as peer checking and reviewing will also be incorporated in this course. This is a required course as stated within the curriculum guidelines for graduation from the Department of Tourism and Transnational Studies. |

This course will be learner-centered with active learning as the main focus of this class. In principle, this class will be conducted in the classroom with students completing writing tasks each week during the class period. | ||||||||||

Students will be expected to keep an English journal throughout the course. Students will also be expected to use the university's library to complete research tasks for their final report. Journal writing should be approximately 60 to 90 minutes of writing outside of class each week. | ||||||||||

評価方法 /Evaluation |
Students will be assessed on journal writing (30%), weekly writing assignments (50%), and short research paper (20%). All written work will be returned to the students within 2 weeks of submission. Students will be able to re-write any of the weekly written work, excluding the final research paper and writing assignment, if the writing has not met the passing benchmarks established for each assignment. |

12 | Research Paper: Body and Conclusion | The body of a research paper as well as the conclusion will be examined in class. | Students will continue to work on their research paper. (90 minutes) |
13 | Research Paper: Consolidation and Final Draft | Students will review the citations and reference sections of their papers and do peer editing. | Students will complete their research paper for submission in the last class. (120 minutes) |
14 | Final Assessment: Summary and Opinion writing | Students will read an article, summarize it and then write their opinion about the topic. | Students should review the various skills acquired in the course. |
