授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This is a one-term required class that teaches students how to read intensively and extensively. Extensive reading activities are to help students improve their reading fluency so that they can read English faster and for enjoyment. Extensive reading activities, which will be carried out in class help students expand their English vocabulary, understand the details of a text, and discuss current topics in pairs and groups. |

This class is aimed at improving students reading comprehension and speaking skills. Each lesson will focus on one short reading with pre-reading and post-reading discussion activities. Through an intensive examination of a two-paragraph news report, students will increase academic vocabulary and knowledge of idiomatic expressions. In addition, students will be given opportunity to develop their English reading fluency (speed and enjoyment) through free-reading homework. There will be no textbook for this class. Handouts will be provided. |

Students will be required to read an English novel (of approximately 200-300 pages) of their choice during the semester. The goal is to develop reading fluency and an enjoyment of reading without utilizing a dictionary. Students will write a weekly reading journal (approximately 150-300 words) summarizing their thoughts and opinions. | ||||||||||
