授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
Japanese Masks This course will focus on the history and features of Japanese masks, explored in a variety of contexts, including ritual, performance, politics, a professional art, and a commercial product. The focus topics and themes will for the most part be presented chronologically, beginning with 7th century Gigaku masks and concluding with 19th century decorative masks produced for export. Please see the Course Schedule (授業計画詳細情報) for a full list of topics. To accommodate each lecture, and to aid students in gaining an understanding of the various categories and types of masks, numerous slides will be shown featuring examples of representative works. Supplemental readings and associated exercises will be provided to ensure an understanding of the historical and cultural context. This course focuses on improving students' "listening" and "reading" skills and their "competence to think critically in English," as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are "to obtain a comprehensive English proficiency," as stated in the CP. |
