授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
Students will continue to develop their communication skills, with a focus on listening and speaking, in this course. To accomplish this, weekly topics will be introduced so students can continue to build their vocabulary and use idiomatic phrases correctly. Listening practices will focus on various topics relevant to today's global society. Students will also be exposed to different speaking and listening strategies and exercises used in various qualification examinations. *This is a required course as stated within the curriculum guidelines for graduation from the Department of Tourism and Transnational Studies. |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
This course will be learner-centered and active in nature. Students will spend the majority of the class time in doing pair work speaking and listening activities. Students will be expected to give presentations on various topics throughout the term. Due to the active nature of this class, on-line participation or "make-up" papers to be done outside of class will not be accepted. Voice recognition software as well as on-line supplementary activities will be used by the student. |

Students will be expected to expand their vocabulary and focus on individual speaking exercises outside of the classroom. Students will be expected to listen to some form of English each day for 5 to 10 minutes outside of class. For successful completion of this course, it is expected that approximately 60 to 90 minutes each week should be spent completing the LMS assignments and expanding vocabulary. | ||||||||||

評価方法 /Evaluation |
Students will be assessed on weekly conversation tasks, homework, reflection sheets and vocabulary quizzes (50%), mid-term assessment (25%), and end-term assessment (25%). On-line assignments will be given each week. Students will be expected to complete these tasks for successful completion of the course. Students will receive weekly feedback on their work and participation in class through the reflection sheets. |

2 | Unit 7: Food and Drink | Students will learn about food and drink customs in various cultures. | Students will examine SDG #2 and UNESCO cultural heritage food items. |
3 | The Environment of Food | Students will explain rules and customs of food around the world. | Students will complete online tasks for Unit 7 and prepare vocabulary for Unit 8. |
4 | Unit 8: Travel | Students will examine different ways to talk about travel and promote tours. | Students will prepare group presentations on travel destinations. |
