授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This course is designed to acquaint students with various aspects of Japanese culture through the study of traditional legends, tales and myths. Each topic will be introduced through imagery and will include a lecture, readings and related discussions. Course Objectives: ?To learn and discuss a broad variety of traditional Japanese legends, tales and myths ?To learn and discuss the socio-cultural context from which these legends/tales/myths emerged ?To learn and discuss the expression of these legends/tales /myths in the context of performance, ritual, and art ?To learn and discuss how this selection of legends/tales/myths reflect the history, traditions, mores, world-view and character of the Japanese people |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
This is a lecture course. Course materials (readings, assignments, etc.) will be made available for viewing and download via the classroom management platform Manaba. Three quizzes as well will be administered online through Manaba. Classes will in general be held in person on the Dokkyo University campus with one class held at a local Tokyo-area museum, temple/shrine or theatre, as an official off-campus class (学外授業). |

A comprehensive list of course readings will be distributed on the first day of class. These readings will be provided electronically as PDF files. You are not required to purchase a textbook. Students are expected to complete all assigned readings prior to each class. |

Evaluations will be based on achievement on three quizzes (28 points each) and two take-home assignments (8 points each). | ||||||||||
