授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This course discusses media literacy from ethical and moral perspectives. We will survey major ethical theories and principles and apply various ethical standards to the daily media practices and experiences. By examining various dimensions of media and employing case studies, this course aims to help students develop their own ethical understanding of media. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to (1) understand and explain the ethical theories of media; (2) apply ethical principles to various empirical cases of media industries; (3) utilize ethical perspectives to various media practices and experiences in their daily life. |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
This course is taught in English. All classes will be held on campus in face-to-face classroom meetings. Porta II and University Web-Mail System will be used as the essential tools of communication. All assigned readings will be posted on Porta II or reserved in the library. Since this is an undergraduate seminar, students are expected to finish the required reading assignments before each class session. The lectures and class discussions will be based upon these assigned materials. Questioning, providing examples and stories, drawing connections, and making constructive arguments are all excellent ways to participate. |

Students are expected to complete the assigned readings in preparation for in-class discussions and active participation. Students are expected to spend at least two hours each week for this preparation. There are two examinations: midterm and final for this class. Students are also required to make oral presentations in class. Grading breakdown for this course: Class participation and quiz (30%), Oral presentation (25%), Mid-term examination (20%) and Final examination (25%). |
