/Course Objectives
This one-semester core course is compulsory for second-year students. This course aims to provide second-year students with reading opportunities to further develop the academic reading skills that were introduced in their first-year reading course sequence (RWS I/II). Students will continue to be introduced to a variety of academic texts while being provided diverse learning opportunities that allow them to increase their reading proficiency and to recognize the various organizational patterns and rhetorical styles used in academic texts.
[This course focuses on improving students’ "vocabulary," "grammar," and academic "reading" skills while developing their "competence to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese" as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "written receptive skills" as stated in the CP.]
