授業の目的?内容 ／Course Objectives	The objectives of this course are to encourage students to: a) choose an appropriate, Academic topic; b) do DEEP research (in ENGLISH) into both/ many sides of the topic (+ to CITE sources); c) discern between RELIABLE information and Misinformation/ Disinformation (and develop Critical thinking [reasoning] skills) d) give a dynamic ENGLISH presentation about the topic; d1) practice spoken, visual, & physical aspects of EFFECTIVE presentations. e) hold class discussions about both/ many sides of the topic/issue; f) Ask (& logically answer) discussion questions related to the topic/ presentation. g) develop effective discussion abilities, & express opinions clearly (in English)--including showing agreement, taking opposing views, and effectively interrupting. g) develop the ability to come to LOGICAL conclusions...& then produce an organized summary of the topic (including both/ many sides of the issue).
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Teaching method: a) Students will be invited to critically research (in ENGLISH) both ‘Pro’ & ‘Con’ aspects of a chosen Academic topic. b) Students will be asked to logically discern between RELIABLE information and Misinformation/ Disinformation. c) Students will then be asked to compile/ categorize/ organize the researched English info. d) Students will next be requested to organize/ prepare/ deliver English Presentation(s) which include both ‘For’ and/or ‘Against’ aspects of the topic. e) After the presentation(s), critical discussion & debate will be invited (in spoken English). f) Finally, students will use critical thinking/ reasoning, to assemble a list of English conclusions/ assessments/ recommendations about the chosen topic.
事前?事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	*Please do research/ homework assignments A.S.A.P. (the same day; or the next day). *Waiting until the last minute to do assignments/ research/ homework (‘ichiyazuke’) is NOT a good way to prepare for classes. *Please spend an average of 1 hour before each class, to prepare. Please spend an average of AT LEAST 1 hour after every class, to do homework/ research. *NOTE: IF the Virus situation gets bad again, Online classes MIGHT be needed. 評価方法 ／Evaluation	The instructor will use the ongoing assessment technique. Each student will be assessed OFTEN, on: how well each student participates in class; how well each student speaks and elaborates (explains) in English; how well each student researches many different aspects of an issue IN ENGLISH; how well each student reasons (thinks) LOGICALLY; how well each student uses RELIABLE, researched information; how effective each student’s presentation(s) is; how good each student’s critical discussion/debate skills are; and how well each student works together with other class members.    Your grade will tentatively be determined by: ongoing class assessments (approximately 35%); class participation (20%); and homework/ PRESENTATION(s)/ tests (45%).
