授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
The goal in the Writing Skills for Academic Purposes I course is to develop students writing and critical thinking abilities in English, consolidating and developing the essay writing skills they will have developed in the first year. They should be challenged to produce longer academic texts, and engage with a wide variety of academic fields. Overall Objectives 1. To consolidate their understanding of what constitutes a ‘good’ essay. 2. To help students plan and organize coherent essays. 3. To help students learn to analyze and edit their work through peer review. 4. To help students use a variety of academic sources while critically analyzing their validity and relevance. 5. To help students develop their own voice within the framework of an academic writing style, and develop their written fluency. 6. To provide continued practice in the use of citations and references consistent with APA guidelines. |

Spring Semester: Unit 1 to Unit 3 Writing short essays based on assigned topics in each session. Engaging in group discussions and pair work to refine ideas and structure. Receiving feedback on ongoing essays and revising drafts accordingly. ※You will need a computer or tablet to complete the class assignments. |

評価方法 /Evaluation |
classroom participation (20%):Active participation in class discussions, group work, and peer review sessions will be evaluated. This includes contributing thoughtfully to discussions, asking and answering questions. assignments (20%):Various assignments will be given throughout the semester, including essay drafts, outlines, and sentence structure practice. essays (60%; 10%, 20%, 30%):All essays must be submitted by the specified deadlines. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Proper citation and original writing are required in all essays. |
