One of the best ways to improve reading skills is to read a lot so students will be provided with many opportunities to improve their reading abilities in class. Students will develop their reading skills in class and they will also do outside reading on their own to promote more autonomous learning. Some of the main academic reading skills developed on the course will include summarizing texts, paraphrasing ideas, analyzing texts, connecting texts to other contexts, vocabulary/grammar developments, researching topics, etc. The course will focus on understanding short stories as well as connecting those stories to other readings (academic readings) and issues relevant to modern Japan. |
