授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
This course focuses on improving students ’"vocabulary," "grammar," and academic "reading" skills while developing their "competence to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese" as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "written receptive skills" as stated in the CP. Overall Objectives 1. To increase academic vocabulary and to further the development of vocabulary and vocabulary-building skills in general 2. To automatize more accurate grammatical knowledge and recognize cohesive devices 3. To develop a better understanding of various styles and purposes of reading material 4. To develop effective reading skills (intensive reading, extensive reading, etc.) 5. To introduce students to authentic academic texts |

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
This course will primarily be conducted in English. Students are encouraged not only to attend classes regularly but also to actively participate in activities and discussions. Throughout the course, students will develop skills to understand a variety of texts and topics, while also improving their vocabulary and ability to interpret context. In addition, students will practice writing skills. Feedback on assignments will be provided both by classmates and the instructor, either during class sessions or through the Manaba platform. Additionally, each student is responsible for purchasing the textbook designated for the course. |

事前?事後学修の内容 /Before After Study |
Each week, students are required to complete the assigned readings and homework to prepare for active participation in class. Students should review the reading materials and vocabulary before each session. It is also important to complete all homework assignments on time. Students are expected to spend approximately two hours on their preparation as well as review for the coursework. |
