授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
This is an introductory academic writing course for first-year students. Students should be taught how to write a unified, coherent paragraph, which is the basic unit of composition common to most forms of academic, business, professional, and general-purpose writing in English. Developing fluency and well-structured paragraphs is the main focus of this course. However, students in Group C should also practice writing for accuracy at the same time.

Overall Objectives
1. To provide an overview of what constitutes a 'good' paragraph
2. To learn how to properly format a typed paragraph
3. To help students write about themselves and their experiences
4. To help students write clear, coherent and properly-structured paragraphs
5. To help students analyze and revise their writing
6. To help students become familiar with computer literacy and the use of Microsoft Word or Googledocs to create well-formatted documents.

This course focuses on improving students' "vocabulary," "grammar" and "writing" skills, as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "written productive skills," as stated in the CP
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
We will spend approximately three weeks per chapter, and in this semester we cover Chapters 1-5. In the first week of each chapter we will analyze the sample reading for the target writing objectives. Students will learn how to incorporate those examples into their own writing. Attention will also be given to vocabulary building. In the second and third week of each chapter, students will be given more exercises to develop their skills with the chapter's target.

Each week students will spend some time on fluency exercises designed to increase their English writing speed. Students will also work in groups to solve problems and to brainstorm.
事前?事後学修の内容
/Before After Study

After each class, complete any exercise that was not covered in class (30 minutes). Students will be assigned weekly homework, which will include fluency writing practice, making brainstorming and outline notes, completing first drafts of essays, revising essays, and final drafts (1-3 hours).
