授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
The goal in the Writing Skills for Academic Purposes I course is to develop students’ writing and critical thinking abilities in English, consolidating and developing the essay
writing skills they will have developed in the first year. They should be challenged to
produce longer academic texts and engage with a wide variety of academic fields.

Overall Objectives
• To show how a ‘basic academic’ paragraph is written
• To show how a ‘basic academic’ essay is written
• To help students understand a basic pattern of essay organization
• To help students plan an essay
• To help students use references for Internet sources
• To introduce the basics of citations and references (APA style)
• To help students revise and edit their essay
• To help students develop computer literacy skills

This course focuses on improving students“ ’vocabulary,” “grammar” and “writing”
skills, as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for them to acquire the basics of “written
productive skills” stated in the CP.
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
One focus topic/skill will be studied each week. The first part of each class will be used for introduction, explanation and exploration. This will be followed by relevant application of skills to tasks. Updated and more detailed information will be provided in the first class.

Feedback will be provided by a score and comments for each written evaluation item given during the course.

Must have a PC with access to the internet, Microsoft Word/PowerPoint for every lesson throughout the course.

/Before After Study
Students should prepare before each lesson by completing assigned homework / tasks (30-60 minutes). Students should review lesson notes after each lesson and ensure all classwork is complete (30-60 minutes).
