授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
This one semester course aims to provide a forum for exchange students and students from the English department to discuss and learn about a variety of social issues from multicultural perspectives. While the language of instruction is English, students are also encouraged to use their first languages to overcome difficulties with the course materials and in their group discussions. Students will be presented with articles on a variety of social issues affecting contemporary Japanese society. These issues will be discussed in the Japanese context, and students will be challenged to reflect and consider how these issues affect and are dealt with in other cultures.
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
The aim is to provide international students with an opportunity to learn about Japanese society, and for Japanese students to learn how issues affecting their society are perceived in the world.

Topics will be studied over two class weeks. In the first week, students read an article about a social issue affecting Japan and discuss the topic in small groups.

In the second week, students will research how the topic affects or is perceived in other parts of the world and make short poster presentations about their research to their classmates.

Students will need to research and prepare a short poster presentation for each of the topics covered in the course.

Students will be expected to spend time outside of class reviewing the articles used in class discussions and will be given online tasks to complete in relation to these.
