/Course Objectives
□Content
The purpose of this course is to allow the students to engage in and explore a variety of current issues in society

□Reading & Discussion
?read and evaluate texts in social sciences and humanities
?express one’s opinions about the course topic in a discussion constructively

□Writing & Presentations
?write a research paper on the course topic with appropriate citation (600-900 words + bibliography)
?make a visually aided presentation of the paper

Class is taught and participated in English.

/Teaching method and Attention the course
This is a dynamic class, and the students are expected to communicate in English at all times. There will be plenty of opportunities for discussion through pair and group work. All teaching handouts will be available on manaba. Students, therefore, must be sure to have printed out all the relevant handouts beforehand and remember to bring them to each class. Please note that the syllabus is subject to adjustments and change depending on students' level, interests and progress made.

5 The cruelty of zoos. Discussion on the existence of zoos.
6 How to write a research paper. Investigation as to the elements of what makes a first class research paper.
7 Food. – Introduction to the topic. Introduction to the main concept of the topic.
8 The differences in food cultures. Learn about the different food culture around the world.
9 The story of McDonald's Finding out the behind-the-scenes story of the most successful fast-food chain in the world.
10 The social issues surrounding food. Learn about the issues regarding the food waste and the health.
11 Mass Media. Introduction to the topic. The current form of mass media.
12 The future of mass media. Discussion on the possible futures for mass media.
13 Oral presentation A. Students give presentation on their research paper.
